History:
Ty was born in a canvas tent outside his parents dig on the Giza Plain. His first sight, after his fathers steele blue eyes was the Great Pyramids of Giza, and even though he was only a few moments old, this awesome presence stuck with him throughout his life. His parents were working on an underfunded documentary of the ancient Egyptian monoliths, and even though his mother was so close to delivery, she would not delay the project, such was her devotion to her and her husbands work. This devotion of theirs very nearly ended his life prematurely, due to the conditions of the campsite, and the lack of practical medical care that a newborn required, he contracted pneumonia a month later. If it were not for the tender care administered upon him by a local healer, he would have been born and died on that desert plain. This story was told to him later, and Ty often attributes his recklessness to this very ordeal.
After that ordeal Ty's mother took several years off from her work, raising Ty at their home just off the campus of UNLV, where both of his parents were tenured proffessors, his mother of Anthropology, and his father of Archeology. His mother was very regimented in his education, encouraging him to develop as quickly as he was able, and he proved to have a very spongelike mind, developing quickly under her tender but accelerated care. By the time he entered kindergarten he was allready reading at a second grade level, and studying fractions, as he showed a highly developed sense of numbers and a prowress with them.
He was to skip fourth grade alltogether, but instead of going right to fifth grade he instead went on an 8 month excavation with his father to the Incan ruins. He was becoming a bit of a troublemaker in class, and it wasn't because he wasn't bright enough, it was that he was too bright for his classes, and was bored, so he tended to get into trouble. This dig would be the first time he'd ever spent with his father on a daily basis, and he would learn alot, and be inspired by him, and what he learned on the dig. His father was very clinical, detached, except when he was exploring, then he was like a curious child, wide eyed and excited. Ty would grow to respect these qualities, admire his father greatly, and even want to be like him...with one exception, the influence of his mother. Her influence tempered that clinical detachment, and helped him develop actual means of coping with emotions without hiding them.
On this expedition he would see his first example of actual ancient cultures writings and drawings, and he was very much influenced by the drawings in the Incan pyramids. Drawings of strange vessels and machines, powers depicted in odd ways, these would all influence him greatly, and he would study these for many years. He would immerse himself when he returned home, in studies of the culture, and in studies of mechanical things, how they worked, the forces of science, technology, mixed with strange drawings and somewhat otherworldly forces.
He would excel in school, though his parents would be called in for conferences often, his thought process was often quite different from the other students, and that lead to some consternation from his teachers, but still he excelled. He was never the best student, he didn't have the drive to be the best, he had his own interests, and while he got straight A's, he always seemed on a different page than the curriculum or other students.
Living just off campus at UNLV gave him the perfect opportunity to engage in plenty of audited night classess, and he took all that he could, learning not only advanced knowledge while he was still in high school, but developing his social skills, after all, its gotta be hard for a 16 year old to hang with much older folks. He took everything from accupuncture to Tae Kwan Do, metalshop. Joined several clubs including a model building club and a desert survival and tracking club. These were some of the happiest days of his life, he felt like a secret agent, high school student by day, but by night and weekend a secret college infiltrator, it was glorious.
When he had finally graduated and was accepted into UNLV, it was like he'd been attending the college for years, since he sort of had been. He had earned several credits during his junior and senior summer, and really had his pick of majors. He of course chose Archeology, to follow in his fathers footsteps. It was during his first year that he met Dr. Virgil Mac Gregor, a Son of Ether that took Ty under his wing, seeing the young mans potential, and slowly introducing him into the reality of the world. Dr. MacGregor was a Mechanical Engineer, who met Ty during an inter college function, and encouraged him to take a double major, based on Ty's enthusiasm with machinery and science, so he did. Next year he would embark on his dual major, Mechanical Engineering and Archeology.
The next several years were spent in a whirlwind of academic studies, and field work, most of which he spent in either the Nevada desert or Central/South America. It was when he was analyzing some apparent mechanical schematics he'd unearthed from one of his digs that he had his awakening, started to see the subtle underlying patterns he was looking at, and would never be able to see the world the same way again. At first he was terrified, but MacGregors enthusiasm was contagious, and soon Ty was the mans student, and avidly pursuing these alternate teachings.
Much to MacGregors dismay, Ty would only achieve a Masters in Mechanical engineering, and go on to do his graduate work in Archeology. Ty had a dream, a vision to fullfill, and it was to tie in the ancient technology to the current, to prove that the forces underlying the universe were timeless, and even the ancient cultures were capable of high technology, just on this alternate level. He has just been granted a proffessorial position at UNLV, and has a small office and lab where he and his team of students perform their activities. This lab is his sanctum, MacGregor helped him set it up and make sure it would work as intended. He still keeps in touch with his former Mentor, though his Mentor now has new students and doesn't have too much time to spend on the now Adept Ty. He lives in his parents house, as they are now both working on a joing venture between UNLV and Edinburgh University, studying cultural development in various aboriginal societies.
